Playlist for the week of August 21

The Chocolate Shake from Planet Raw in Santa Monica. This baby is made with nutmilk, honey, and pure voodoo. I’m not really a vegan-y type guy, but hoo man, it’s delicious. And it makes you feel less like adopting a prone position/hurling and more like taking on the world. You should probably drink one every day for the rest of your life.

Rdio (it’s pronounced are-dee-oh) is an online streaming music service with an incredible, near-comprehensive library. You can follow (Twitter-style) other users and friends to see what they’ve been spinning, too—a great way to discover new artists and check out music without dropping a fat $9.99 on an iTunes album. Yeah yeah, it costs a little each month, but it gives you access to everything. Plus, the mobile app lets you stream the music right to your phone, and you can sync music to your phone to listen to even when you’re offline. Don’t be a dummy, let’s be Rdio friends.

That’s the number of different ways a deck of 52 playing cards can be arranged. That’s also approximately the number of atoms in the galaxy. Now it’s time for a nap. (thanks, reddit)

The Screed This Guy Wrote and Taped to a Lamppost on the Corner of Beverly and Fairfax is really something. I’m not exactly a fan of Governor Perry, but you have to applaud both the writer’s plan to get his message out into the world and his shrewd use of caps.

That Wilford Brimley Was In The Thing Sans Moustache was a revelation to me. I finally watched John Carpenter’s The Thing on Netflix Instant last night, and yes, it is scary. Even more notable is that Wilford “Diabeetus” Brimley is in it, BAREFACED. That’s not something I had ever seen before. Look at that young buck.
